Description

Rich and smooth frosting with a warm nutty flavor, perfect for cakes and cupcakes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup (4 Tbsp; 56g) unsalted butter, cut into 4 slices
  • 8 ounces (226g) full-fat brick cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 2 and 1/2 cups (300g) confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Brown the butter: Place sliced butter in a light pan over medium heat, stirring constantly. Once melted, the butter will foam, and after about 5–7 minutes, it will brown. Once it is golden-brown, remove from heat and let cool for 10 minutes before refrigerating until solid.
  2. Beat the frosting: In a large bowl, beat the solidified brown butter on high until creamy. Add the cream cheese and beat until smooth. Then, add the confectioners’ sugar, vanilla, and salt. Beat initially at low speed, then increase to high and beat until light and fluffy.
  3. Spread on cooled cake or cupcakes. If piping, chill for 20–30 minutes to firm up.

Notes

Use a light-colored pan to monitor browning. Ensure the butter is fully cooled and solidified for thicker frosting. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to one week.
