Description

Crispy, savory, and endlessly customizable, these homemade artisan crackers are a gourmet snack you can whip up with pantry staples. Perfect for cheese boards, dips, soups, or straight-from-the-jar munching, they’re the ultimate DIY upgrade to store-bought snacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour, plus more for kneading and rolling

  • 1 tsp granulated sugar

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ½ tsp onion powder

  • ¼ tsp garlic powder

  • 1 Tbsp finely chopped fresh rosemary (or other herbs – see Notes)

  • ⅔ cup (160ml) water

  • 3 Tbsp (45ml) extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for brushing

  • Flaky sea salt, for topping

  • Optional: sesame seeds, everything bagel seasoning, cracked pepper, etc.

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and herbs.

  2. Add water and olive oil; stir until a dough forms.

  3. Knead dough on a floured surface for 1–2 minutes. Let rest, covered, for at least 10 minutes.

  4. Preheat oven to 425°F (218°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

  5. Cut dough in half. Roll each portion into a thin rectangle (~1/16 inch thick).

  6. Cut into rectangles (~3 x 1.5 inches). Dock with a fork.

  7. Brush with olive oil, sprinkle with flaky salt (and toppings, if using).

  8. Bake 9–12 minutes, rotating pans halfway through.

  9. Cool completely on baking sheet for full crispiness.

Notes

Crackers can be frozen once cooled. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 months.

To re-crisp, bake at 350°F for 8–10 minutes. Cool fully before serving.

Other add-ins: thyme, chives, sesame seeds, black pepper, za’atar, or lemon zest.

Whole wheat flour may be used for up to 50% of the total flour—expect a denser cracker.

Gluten-free flour is not recommended.
