Description

These Honey Butter Rolls are the ultimate homemade treat — ultra-soft, sweetened with real honey, and topped with a buttery glaze that melts into each golden roll. With just 7 simple ingredients and step-by-step instructions, you’ll be baking the fluffiest, most irresistible rolls every time. Perfect for dinner, brunch, or holiday feasts.

Ingredients

    • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk, warmed to about 110°F (43°C)

    • 2 ¼ tsp (7g) instant yeast or active dry yeast (1 packet)

    • ¼ cup (85g) + 1 tsp honey, divided

    • 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk

    • ¼ cup (4 Tbsp / 56g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled

    • 3 ½ cups (455g) bread flour

    • 1 tsp salt

    Topping:

    • ¼ cup (4 Tbsp / 56g) unsalted butter, very soft

    • 2 Tbsp (42g) honey

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 tsp honey. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

  2. Add remaining honey, egg, egg yolk, melted butter, 3 cups flour, and salt. Mix on low speed for 1 minute. Add remaining ½ cup flour and mix until dough pulls away from the sides.

  3. Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Perform a windowpane test to check readiness.

  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled (1–2 hours).

  5. Punch down, divide into 15 balls, and shape. Place in a greased 9×13-inch pan.

  6. Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until puffy.

  7. Bake at 350°F (177°C) for 20–25 minutes, rotating halfway through.

  8. Mix soft butter and honey for topping. Brush generously onto warm rolls.

Notes

For overnight prep, refrigerate shaped rolls before second rise.

To freeze, shape rolls and freeze up to 3 months. Thaw, rise, and bake as usual.

Baked rolls freeze well; reheat in a 300°F oven for 10 minutes.

All-purpose flour can be used, though bread flour provides more chew.

For vegan version, use plant-based milk, butter, and agave syrup.
