Description
A rich and creamy hot cocoa made with real cocoa and chocolate for a deep chocolate flavor.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups whole milk (or milk of choice)
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 to 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 ounce dark chocolate, finely chopped (about 2 tablespoons)
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- A tiny pinch of salt
- Optional: 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch (for extra thickness)
- Toppings: whipped cream, marshmallows, a sprinkle of cocoa or cinnamon
Instructions
- Pour the milk into a small saucepan and warm it over medium-low heat. Do not boil. Heat until small bubbles form around the edge.
- In a small bowl, mix the cocoa powder and sugar. If using, add cornstarch to this dry mix.
- Add a few tablespoons of the warm milk to the dry mix and stir into a smooth paste. This prevents lumps.
- Pour the paste back into the pan with the warm milk. Whisk until smooth.
- Add the chopped dark chocolate and the pinch of salt. Stir until the chocolate melts and blends in.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Taste and add more sugar if desired.
- Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream or marshmallows.
Notes
Serve fresh and hot, with toppings like whipped cream and a sprinkle of cocoa. Adjust sugar level to taste.
