A simple, smooth, and sweet vanilla icing perfect for cakes, cupcakes, cookies, or bars.
Ingredients

- 1 cup (120g) confectioners’ sugar, sifted
- 2–3 tablespoons (30-45ml) milk or heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- optional: pinch of salt
Instructions
- Measure the confectioners’ sugar and sift it into a bowl.
- Add 2 tablespoons of milk or heavy cream and the vanilla extract to the sugar.
- Whisk well until the mixture is smooth, adding more milk as necessary to reach pourable consistency.
- If too thin, add more sifted confectioners’ sugar until desired thickness is reached.
- Taste and add a pinch of salt if desired.
- Use immediately or cover and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
Notes
For a thicker icing, add more confectioners’ sugar. For flavor variations, try adding citrus zest or different extracts.
