Description

A simple and sweet recipe for cookies with a charming pink heart inside, perfect for Valentine’s Day gifts or parties.


Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Red or pink food coloring

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter, sugar, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).
  2. Add eggs one at a time, mixing until combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until a dough forms. Add additional flour if the dough is too wet.
  5. Take 1/2-2/3 of the dough aside, adding food coloring to the remaining dough until desired hue is achieved.
  6. Chill the colored dough for 5 minutes, then roll it into a rectangle about 1/2-inch thick and freeze for 20 minutes.
  7. Use a heart cookie cutter to cut out shapes and adhere them together with a tiny bit of water.
  8. Wrap plain cookie dough around the heart shapes, roll into a log, and freeze for at least 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare baking sheets.
  10. Slice the log into 1/4-inch rounds and bake for about 12 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Cool before serving.

Notes

These cookies can be frozen before slicing and baked directly from the freezer. Store baked cookies in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
