Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the molasses, egg, and vanilla.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until combined.
- Roll the dough out to 1/4 inch thickness and cut into gingerbread men shapes.
- Place on a baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes.
- Let cool and decorate as desired.
Notes
For firmer edges, bake an extra 1-2 minutes but watch closely to avoid overbaking. Chilling the dough can help with cutting if it becomes too soft.
