Description

Delicious heart-shaped danishes filled with cream cheese and fresh strawberries, perfect for breakfast or a sweet treat.


Ingredients

  • 1 sheet store bought puff pastry (thawed to package directions)
  • 4 oz cream cheese (at room temperature)
  • 2 tbsp white sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • red food coloring
  • 1/2 cup diced strawberries
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp cold water

Instructions

  1. Thaw the puff pastry sheet as per package directions.
  2. Preheat oven to 400°F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a small bowl, beat the room temperature cream cheese with sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Roll the puff pastry lightly and cut into heart shapes.
  5. Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each heart.
  6. Add a few pieces of diced strawberry on top of the cream cheese.
  7. Add a drop or two of red food coloring to one or two strawberries if you want a brighter red accent.
  8. Beat 1 large egg with 1 tbsp cold water and brush the edges of the pastry with the egg wash.
  9. Bake until the pastry is puffed and golden, about 12–15 minutes.
  10. Cool on a wire rack a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature. Optionally dust with powdered sugar for presentation.
