- 3 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
- 1–2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Prepare your oven and pans: Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Grease and lightly flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa powder, and granulated sugar. Whisk together until well combined.
- Add wet ingredients: Pour in the hot coffee, canola oil, and buttermilk into the dry mixture. Mix gently until just combined.
- Incorporate eggs and vanilla: Add the eggs and vanilla extract. Stir just until everything is incorporated.
- Pour into pans: Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans.
- Bake the cakes: Place the pans in the oven and bake for about 30 minutes. Check doneness with a toothpick.
- Cool the cakes: Allow them to cool in the pans for about 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Make the frosting: In a mixing bowl, beat the butter until creamy. Gradually add the confectioners’ sugar, then the heavy cream, vanilla, and salt. Mix until fluffy.
- Assemble the cake: Once cooled, frost the layers and cover the top and sides of the cake.
- Store the cake: Keep it in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
