Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk

  3. Combine wet ingredients: mix oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, vanilla, and vinegar until smooth.
  4. Add the wet mixture to the dry mixture and stir until just combined.
  5. Optional: Fold in chocolate chips for added flavor.
  6. Fill the cupcake liners about 2/3 full with batter.
  7. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool the cupcakes in the pan, then frost with cream cheese frosting and decorate with sprinkles.

Notes

For a deeper red color, use high-quality red food coloring. Store in an airtight container.
