Ingredients

- 1 cup water
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- Vegetable oil for deep frying
- Nutella (melted chocolate, or caramel sauce)
Instructions
- Combine the water, unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and salt in a saucepan. Bring this mixture to a boil over medium heat.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the all-purpose flour until a dough forms. Let it cool for about 5 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing until the dough is smooth. Optional: stir in the vanilla extract.
- Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star-shaped tip.
- Pipe the dough into 1 to 2-inch strips on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cutting with scissors.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F.
- Drop churros into the hot oil in batches, frying for about 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Remove churros and drain on paper towels, tossing them warm in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar.
- Serve warm with Nutella, melted chocolate, or caramel sauce for dipping.
Notes
Store leftover churros in an airtight container with a paper towel at room temperature for optimal freshness.
