Description

A classic Southern dessert with juicy peaches and a buttery crust, perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups fresh or canned peaches, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup sugar (divided)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the fruit by washing, peeling, and slicing fresh peaches or draining canned peaches. Mix with 1/4 cup of sugar and set aside.
  3. Make the batter by combining flour, remaining sugar (3/4 cup), baking powder, and salt. Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla until just combined.
  4. Combine the batter into a greased baking dish without spreading it. Spoon peaches evenly over the batter without stirring.
  5. Sprinkle cinnamon on top of the peaches if desired.
  6. Bake in the oven for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly.
  7. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve with ice cream, whipped cream, custard, or fresh mint for added flavor.
