Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Sift the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder together.
- Mix the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and white vinegar until smooth.
- Combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture until just combined.
- Prepare the pans by dividing the batter evenly between them.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, checking with a toothpick in the center.
- Cool the cakes for 10 minutes in the pans before transferring to a wire rack.
- Prepare the frosting by beating the cream cheese and butter until smooth, then adding powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
- Assemble the cake by layering frosting between the cooled cakes and coating the outside.
